Eric Santoli's Teaching Philosophy

"As a teacher, I believe it’s incredibly important to always be supportive and encouraging of all students.  Being a contemporary artist means spending time contemplating where you fit into the artistic timeline; because of this, I believe it’s also important to have an understanding of what came before us in art history. Every student has different goals, interests, tendencies, fears, etc. and I have learned that a generalized way of teaching is not effective.  For me, the most effective form of teaching requires an individualized approach that emphasizes the principles of art, such as value, form, color, composition, and so on.  As a teacher, I need to learn the goals of the student and do my best to facilitate the success of the student.  Because of this, I would say that my teaching philosophy is always shifting based on my student’s goals. My common thread is to always encourage, be patient and to keep learning and growing myself.  It is a great honor to be a teacher and to share my knowledge and ideas with students."

Eric Santoli is a 2014 BFA graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a 2013 certificate recipient of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.  He is currently a graduate student in the MA of Studio Arts Program at the Florence Academy of Art (2024 Anticipated).
In May of 2021, he was awarded the Versailles Foundation's prestigious Munn Fellowship Artist Residency Award.  For this Fellowship, he lived as Artist-in-Residence at Claude Monet's house and gardens in Giverny, France from May until August of 2023.
He is currently represented by Martin House Gallery and Cimarron Song Gallery.  He is a brand ambassador for Natural Pigments, an affiliate artist with Rosemary & Co Artists' Brushes and a member of the Portrait Society of America.
